14 high speed heavy lift vessels
With a high service speed of up to 20kt, vessels under SAL agency are able to offer extremely short transit times, imperative for time-sensitive cargoes. Apart from its high speed, all 14 vessels are characterised by their lean structure and low draft making them highly flexible and well equipped to reach even less accessible ports. With their crane capacity of up to 1,400mtons SWL, the vessels are able to rely on their own equipment for loading and discharging in most ports world-wide. Equipped with these on-board cranes and related cargo-handling equipment, all vessels are designed to visit both remote ports and oil fields around the world. With their modern gear, the vessels can operate as heavy-lift installation vessels (HLIV) and platform transportation vessels (PTVs).

New generation of heavy lift vessels – Type 183
In 2010/2011 SAL's fleet will experience another significant growth with the delivery of two new heavy lift vessels of Type 183. The Type 183 represents a new generation of heavy lift ships. In collaboration with the German Sietas shipyard SAL has developed a vessel type that corresponds to market demands and features the most advanced technology. Both heavy lift vessels will be equipped with two 1,000mtons SWL portside cranes with a combined lifting capacity of up to 2,000mtons SWL. Similar to the current fleet the new buildings will have a high speed of 20kt. Another innovation of the type 183 is the capability to trade with an open hatch? to accommodate oversized cargoes. In addition, the vessels will be equipped with a Kongsberg Dynamic Positioning System.
In 1980, the modern SAL office was founded by Hans Heinrich. In 1984, Hans Heinrich, together with his brother Claus, took over the management of three vessels from their father Paul Heinrich (PH). In the same year, the first geared vessels with 2 x 38mtons SWL were ordered. A little more than two decades later, the four new buildings of type 176 feature cranes with up to 700mtons SWL each. Since 2001 SAL has been under the joint management and ownership of the Heinrich and Rolner families and has grown to a staff of almost 100 ashore and about 500 crew members on the vessels worldwide. In April 2007, SAL entered a joint venture with the "K" Line Group headed by Kawasaki Kisen Kaisa, Ltd., Tokyo. The joint venture by these two shipping companies with their long histories will offer customers a wide variety of synergy effects.
