BBC Chartering Reinvigorates Presence In Asia Pacific Markets

Published 10 June 2009 | By BBC Chartering

Following the earlier announcement that Asia Project Chartering Pte Ltd (APC) will be dissolved from the beginning of July, Leer-based BBC Chartering is undertaking a number of developments to reinvigorate and enhance its presence in Asia Pacific markets.

Trades previously served under the APC brand will now be operated under the BBC Chartering name. The APC SAFE Line between Asia and the east coast of South America is being renamed BBC Americana Line Far East Service, while the APC SAFE Line between Asia and the west coast of South America will be rebranded BBC Andino Express Line Far East Service.

In the rebranded trades BBC Chartering will continue to operate from representative offices in Singapore, Tokyo, Dalian, Melbourne and Dubai, all of which will operate under the BBC Chartering name. An additional office will be opened in South Korea (Seoul) from 1 July.

To continue to serve its clients without diminishing the level of service and performance that was delivered under the APC partnership, BBC has also confirmed all commercial staff in the offices above will transfer into its employment.

In addition, from 1 August, Oliver Andersen will become managing director for BBC Chartering regional operations, based in Singapore. He will also co-ordinate commercial activities across the Asia Pacific region.

Mr Andersen has a significant pedigree in project and heavy-lift cargoes, both as a broker and an operator, as well as extensive experience of ships agency services. He is joining BBC from Andersen Shipping Company, where he was managing director.

He said: While I will be sad to leave the family business, this is a chance of a lifetime with one of the world's market leaders in the business of heavy and over-dimensional project cargo shipping.

Announcing the reinvigoration programme and welcoming Mr Andersen, Svend Andersen, president and CEO of BBC Chartering, said: We have successfully served our clients' project shipping needs in Asia for many years and it will be Oliver's challenge to reposition BBC to take advantage of new opportunities, further enhance the services that we offer to clients and improve operating efficiencies.
