To become primary supplier of Argos’ inbound UK supply chain
Wincanton, a European supply chain provider, has signed a three year contract with Argos to become the primary supplier of the retailer’s inbound UK supply chain. It builds on a 13-year partnership and existing warehousing and transport operations at seven locations in the UK.
Under the deal, Wincanton would utilise both its own vehicles as well as the retailer’s inter-distribution centre (inter DC) trunking fleet, to handle around 35,000 inbound container movements per annum.
The joint Argos/Wincanton team is expected to take responsibility for the planning and implementing of port to DC container movements, inter DC trunking scheduling and domestic supplier connections.
Anita Donohoe, Inbound Control Manager of Argos, said: "The innovation that Wincanton has been able to offer is very attractive to us. To extend our business to a supplier that we already work closely and in partnership with makes a lot of sense. It will also provide various synergies across the contract that will ultimately reduce costs. In the many years that we have worked with Wincanton, we have built up a great understanding of each other’s businesses."
