Quantum Selects UQM Propulsion System For Electric Postal Vehicle

LBR Staff Writer Published 09 February 2010

Quantum Fuel Systems Technologies (Quantum) has ordered for a propulsion system to be incorporated into it’s Quiet battery electric drive system from UQM Technologies, to power an advanced electric postal delivery vehicle being developed for the US Postal Service (USPS).

According to the company, the vehicle, which will be based on the Grumman Long Life Vehicle (LLV), is being developed under a one year demonstration and validation program to be conducted by the USPS in Washington, DC.

Quantum said that a complete demonstration in Washington, DC may allow an adoption of battery electric vehicles in the USPS fleet. The electrification of 178,000 LLV segment of postal delivery fleet, USPS, will help to reduce emissions across the country and reduce dependence on foreign petroleum, while supporting the continued development of US EV industry.

William Rankin, president and CEO of UQM Technologies, said: “We are pleased to be selected by Quantum for this important program. We have a long history of collaborating with Quantum on successful clean vehicle programs for the US Military and other commercial customers, and we expect this program to result in a vehicle that exceeds the USPS’ performance expectations.”
