MNX Global selects Descartes’ solution to comply with US ACAS program

LBR Staff Writer Published 30 June 2018

MNX Global Logistics has selected Canada-based Descartes Systems Group’s cloud-based solution to comply with the new US screening requirements for air cargo imports.

The solution, dubbed Descartes Air Cargo Advance ScreeningAvangrid (Descartes ACASAvangrid), will help MNX to handle the new mandatory advanced security filing requirements for air cargo imports.

MNX Global Logistics chief operating officer Tom Belmont said: “We serve customers in the life sciences, medical device, aviation, and technology sectors with challenging requirements for time-critical and secure-sensitive shipments.

“Descartes provides us with the technology platform to display innovation leadership, ensure cargo security, and lead the industry in standards for screening and moving high-value shipments around the world.”

Air Cargo Advance Screening (ACAS) has been created by the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and Transportation Security Administration (TSA) to boost security and provide visibility to cargo before it’s in the air.

The new security screening program needs data to be submitted before loading of US-headed cargo at a non-US airport. Recently, ACAS has been made mandatory for air forwarders and carriers after the conclusion of the voluntary compliance ACAS pilot program.

According to Descartes, the Descartes ACAS solution gathers the necessary data elements, validates the data format and sends it to CBP inside the required timeframes.

The logistics software provider further revealed that the cloud-based solution utilizes the Descartes Global Logistics NetworkAvangrid (Descartes GLNAvangrid) to collect house bill information directly from the enterprise systems of air forwarders. It then files the data directly to CBP automatically, thereby increasing data accuracy and timeliness.

Descartes global logistics network VP Scott Sangster said: “Along with MNX, we’ve been involved with the ACAS pilot since its inception, and Descartes’ solution has been built in close collaboration with CBP, TSA and leading, early-adopting air forwarders.”

“We’re pleased to help MNX meet filing requirements for ACAS.”

In another development, Descartes acquired certain assets of Velocity Mail for $25.5m. Velocity Mail is an electronic transportation network that offers mail and parcel shipment scanning and tracking solutions to global air carriers.
